I love you little Baby

My dearest Mia,

Daddy was so excited to see you this weekend! He wishes everyday could be Caturday. Mommy and Daddy celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary on Friday, May 16th. We enjoyed holding you, and singing to you, and I'm pretty sure Mommy was dancing with you at one point. The song in this video is "Eagles" by Terri Hendrix. She is talking about "I love you little baby" and, of course, eagles. I'm pretty sure this song is about you, Eagle Chick! Your mommy and I met with the anesthesiologist today for a couple of hours, and he talked us through what happened from his perspective. It was good for me, and we learned that your brain was already pressing up against your skull when they opened you up. So it turned out to be a very good thing we didn't wait to do the skull surgery for months and months. God was and is in complete control of this situation baby girl, and we are so glad you are looking better every day. Mia, you are doing SO good. A nurse from last week in the PICU saw you today and she was pretty amazed at how you are looking around and grabbing things. If you could get that oxygen thing out of your nose, and think about eating from a bottle, we would love to take you home!

Mia's Story

Mia was born October 12th, 2007. Lisa's water broke early at 34 weeks and she was in the hospital for 2 weeks because she didn't go into labor. During that time, they noticed a blocked intestine in Mia and determined that she should be delivered down at UCLA. So, at 36 weeks, Mia was delivered via C-section (because she was breech). We know that was a God thing because after she was born we found out her heart had not completed closing off the four chambers (an AV Canal) and a stressful delivery might not have been best for her. We also found out she didn't have an anal opening and her right nostril was blocked. Months later we would find out her skull had fused early. All of these things required surgeries. On May 1st, 2008, Mia had surgery on her skull and suffered a stroke during it. The doctors told us she would only "eat, breath, smile and laugh". People from all over had already been praying for Mia, but so many more joined in and she is truly a miracle because she continues to progress far beyond what anyone would have imagined. This is our blog to document that journey of our little girl, thank you for praying and we hope it will encourage you as much as it encourages us. God is good, all the time!
