Crawling

It's official...wobbly, but official, the little man can crawl.  Yikes, a few days short of 6 months...this boy is on the move and trying to catch up to his brother and sister fast!

Great Grandma

Asher and I went on a trip for the past few days to visit my grandmother, the kids great-grandmother, and several aunts and uncles in North Dakota.  I didn't know how we were going to do on the airplane, but I was confident it would be ok with just he and I.  Daddy held down the fort at home with the other two munchkins while I got a much needed vacation.  These days I'm just feeling so burnt out and exhausted, trying to sort out parenting as best as we can...wanting to raise kids that just aren't obedient because they fear the consequences, but rather are obedient because they want to make the right choice.  It is a battle.  So, these past few days away were so good for me and it was so nice to see family that I haven't seen in awhile and I loved that they got to meet Asher.

He did so well on the flights, everyone on the planes adored him.  Everyone who sat beside me was ok with having a baby next to them, in fact, several people were excited that they got to be by the baby on the plane.  Well, he is rather cute, so I didn't blame them for that.  On one of our flights we had a younger stewardess...she was very pretty with blonde hair and a gorgeous smile...Asher thought so too, every time she walked by he would start cooing at her.  And as soon as she was gone, he would stop.  It was rather amusing actually.

We just enjoyed a relaxing time with family for a few days before it was time to come back home.  :)

Words, words, and more words...

I was thinking back to about 3 years ago, before Mia was speaking...when we sat down with her neurologist at one of her regular check-ups and he told me that he didn't think Mia would ever be able to speak.  Fast forward to our speech therapy visit last week on Thursday and her speech therapist is telling me how it is time for her to graduate because she "has all of her sounds".  All of her sounds!  Praise God, what a miracle...really.  The fact that she can produce all of the sounds is amazing.  Sometimes when she is talking really fast she will not enunciate clear enough, but if you ask her to slow down, you can understand her so well, it is amazing.  What a journey!  Thank you Lord for so much progress with our little girl.  So grateful.

Sleeping Like A Baby

Oh to sleep like a baby...who thought of that saying, baby's don't sleep well.  They are up multiple times at night...I guess it is just because they look so peaceful when they finally are sleeping.  Like this munchkin.  Love him!

4th of July

Yesterday we drove to LA to spend some time with Brad's Uncle Joel and family.  Nana and Grampapa came along also, so that worked out great because each kid got some grandparent time in their car (they  have an extra car seat in there).  We had a great time and the kids especially enjoyed the trip.  We were just getting into Bakersfield, on the way home, when the fireworks shows started.  Calvin was in our car and we were telling him where to look to see the fireworks...he saw them and was overjoyed (I'm not underestimating the emotion) at the pretty colors in the sky.  It was the highlight of his night.  He kept exclaiming with joy, "I see them, I see the fireworks!"  At one point he said, "the plop, plop, plop in the sky".  On our street he got to see some of our neighbor's fireworks and he was so excited.  And then just for fun we went and sat on our back patio to watch more fireworks being set off.  Mia, on the other hand, was not very excited about the fireworks...even possibly, slightly hesitant to like them.  But once we were home and talking about it...seeing that it was ok, she warmed up to it.  She definitely was not enthusiastic, like Calvin, but at least she wasn't scared of them.  Asher didn't really have an opinion...we'll give him another year to figure it out.

Happy Five Months Asher!

Where has the time gone?  Asher is becoming more alert and more mobile these days.  In addition to being able to roll both ways, he can now push with his back legs to move himself forward to get places and things.  He has much more interest in the toys that are around him and he can get to them and grab them really easily.  He is also beginning to show interest in the food that we are eating, but I'm not quite ready for him to start solids yet...my plan is to wait until he's at least 6 months before we venture down that road.  Here is our handsome little man.
